HSBC Tennis Championship - LTA Queen’s Club London
Since 2015 TESS have been contracted as Safety Advisers for the LTA Tennis Championships at the historic London club.
This international tennis event held at the prestigious Queen’s Club in London is an annual pre-cursor to Wimbledon, attracting star names such as Andy Murray and attended by over ten thousand people each day. For a decade TESS have been Safety Consultants to the The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) for the advance planning , build and throughout tournament week.
The extensive grandstand seating and number of temporary venues, including a 10k capacity temporary sports ground and multiple different contractors, make this a complex build and derig. What makes this event different to working in most sporting venues is the fact the members continue to use all the facilities throughout the build and removal periods. Therefore, our first priority is to ensure we have a strategy for protecting contractors and Queen’s Club members during the build and teardown.
Working with the LTA and Queen’s Club, TESS have found innovative ways to protect the members whilst still keeping the very tight build schedule. By collaborating closely with the onsite contractors, and strictly monitoring the processes implemented, TESS created a safe entry zone for members into the club. Giving them a protected walkway throughout the build and break period means that members experience minimal disruption while staying safe and allowing the construction to continue on schedule.
Our solution driven team are consulted on any changes throughout the year, including creative variations to site layout, grandstand seating or pavilions, before visiting the site regularly throughout the build to look after workers.
Once the event commences, we are onsite for the duration, working with our partners to confidently manage crowd safety. By sitting on the ELT and meeting twice daily, our team have an in depth understanding of how the event is running and are able to advise the client accordingly.
This is one of those events we always look forward to working on.
